The village of Arnesby is

small villages, with a combined adult population of 650, are set geographically
in the Vale of Belvoir and administratively in Leicestershire and

Shilton |
The village is first recorded
in the domesday survey of 1086, it was then known as Scheltone. By
1279 the name had become Schulton. Both of these names relate to 'shelf'
as the town was perched on a hill. |

Anyone leaving the M1 at Junction
24 can see from the roundabout why Kegworth was chosen as a site for
a settlement. To the left are the low levels of the flood plains of
the rivers Trent and Soar, in winter, often a silver mirror of flood
