The 60th Anniversary of the end of World War II
The Leicestershire Celebrations in the grounds of Sunday, 10th July, 2005 A nostalgic concert to celebrate both the 60th Anniversary and the Bicentanary of Admiral Lord Nelson's famous victory at the Battle of Trafalgar. The Hampshire Ex-Servicemen's
Concert Band The Hampshire Band is a fine military band comprised of former Service musicians (Royal Marines, Guards, Royal Air Force etc.) It will be making its debut before a Midlands audience. An outstanding programme of music includes compositions by Eric Coates, Arthur Sullivan, Richard Rodgers, Ron Goodwin, and Sir Vivian Dunn, leading to a sing-a-long with the Broom Leys Choral Society of songs made popular during World War II. Then on to a "Last Night of the Proms" style finale of Parry's "Jerusalem" and Elgar's "Pomp & Circumstance March No. 1 " when you will be able to wave your flags (purchasable in the site) to the words "Land of Hope and Glory". As the concert comes to an end:- Dakota of the Battle of Britain Memorial flight will fly over Beaumanor - a special tribute to those men who so gallantly fought the Japanese in the jungles of Burma and elsewhere and who, for much of the time, were dependent on supplies dropped to them by the dependable Dakota.
