The Parish Council Chairman's Christmas Message 2004
As one of the five thousand residents of Quorn village,
I am happy that, although not everything is as we might wish it, at least
we have several successes to celebrate:
The Jubilee land makeover is complete and now renamed 'The
Banks'. Older residents will, I hope, be happy that the old name for the
former community that existed on this site has been resurrected.
Quorn has again been successful and has been judged The
Best Large Village in Leicestershire & Rutland. The category was changed
this year, 2004, from 'Best Kept Village' to 'Best Village' to take into
account all the activities and services that make a village 'tick' and
good to live in.
I am grateful to my fellow councillor Ivan Bexon and our
Clerk who both contributed so much to the competition submission. All
other councillors deserve my thanks too for their energetic work throughout
the year.
The Parish Council is delighted that they appointed Mrs
Beryl Holland, as their new administrative assistant. Mrs Holland is now
in charge of Village Hall affairs and is there to help and deputise for
Kathryn when needed. I welcome her to the village and onto our council
team.
A planning application is in for affordable rented accommodation
in the village, this fulfils one of my long held ambitions. So many of
our young people find Quorn too expensive to stay and set up home in and
this, if successful, should help to alleviate this problem.
I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at The
Banks (outside the Church Rooms) for the start of the “Christmas Lights
Switch On” on Thursday December 2nd at 6.30pm.
As always I send Christmas greetings and blessings, on behalf
of myself and Kate, our hardworking Clerk, Kathryn, and all the Councillors,
to you and your families in Quorn and beyond.
I am happy that many copies of "The Quorndon" go overseas
to help ex Quornians to feel a little nearer home.
John Hutchinson, Chairman, Quorn Parish Council

Quorn Parish Council — Village Furniture
In
the last issue, there was a short article about the provision of seating
around the village. From time to time the Parish Council is approached
with a request to accept a seat dedicated to a family member or close
friend to be placed within the village.
Following just such a request, a fine wooden bench (see
photograph above) has just been installed on Stafford Orchard, facing
Nursery Lane.
If you or your family are considering such a gesture of
a seat or other village furniture, then do please remember that Caves
Field is being redeveloped. New seating for watching the cricket and for
the general enjoyment of this lovely area would be welcomed
If you would like to make such a gesture—please contact
the Parish Clerk, Kathryn Paterson.
