Welcome to issue 33 of "The Quorndon"

This issue marks the start of our 9th year of publication! Quite an achievement for a magazine that is produced by a small team of volunteers.

The actual production is made possible with the money that we raise from advertising, and we thank all our advertisers, old and new, who have made this possible. On the other hand, we like to think that their adverts benefit them from being seen and read by their immediate customers. We focus on some of the shops and businesses in the village as our main feature in this issue.

Quorn has a rich variety of shops, and we do hope that you will look at local suppliers for your Christmas gifts, food and drink. Have a look at the article, and you may get inspiration for just the right gift.

This year "The Quorndon" team has grown, with Sarah Nicholson joining to look after the Business News and provide other editorial support, and Chris Frith from Quorn Photography, who now takes many of our photographs (sometimes at very short notice).

Our team of proofreaders has also changed during the year. Cathy Hopcraft, reluctantly, decided to step down, and in her place Jill Coekin now helps with the proofreading. We would like to thank Cathy and Jill, and Kate Hutchinson , who has helped with this important function for many years, for all their help and assistance. Many thanks also to the team of volunteers who distribute the magazine, Peter Long, Mavis Turner, Mrs Hands and Mrs Satterley.

Thank you to all who made such generous donations!

In the last issue of "The Quorndon" we posed the question to you - How much is "The Quorndon" worth to you? We asked you to think about making a donation for your copy of "The Quorndon", and you heeded our appeal.

Thanks to your generosity, "The Quorndon" will be able to make a donation of £214.50 towards the May Day Celebrations.

In addition, David Cawdell has made a contribution of £100 from the proceeds of the successful Octoberfest towards the May Day.

Please do think about a donation in return for this issue. It would be wonderful if "The Quorndon" could provide most of the money needed for the May Day, and then go on to help other projects in the village that need seed funds to get going. Please do remember that you get "The Quorndon" delivered to your own home free of charge .

So please when you are reading this, think about what the magazine is worth to you. If it saves you the cost of three phone calls, think about donating the cost of one phone call. All donations, large or small, can be made at Flowers by Sarah at Quorn Cross.

We wish you all a very happy Christmas and a peaceful and prosperous New Year.

Joan, Kevan, Simon, Sarah, Ian and Karenna
