Looking After our Village Hall

After many years, Merle Bruce, our dedicated Village Hall caretaker has decided to take a very well earned retirement. Merle will hang up her dustpan and brush towards the end of 2004. But, in the meantime, she would be delighted to ‘train’ her successor.

Would you like to pick up Merle’s reins?

The main tasks and responsibilities include opening and closing the Hall for users and maintaining its cleanliness and security whilst ensuring the safety of users by arranging for any necessary repairs to be carried out at the earliest opportunity.

You would be paid a salary based on an average 10 hours per week although you will appreciate that the hours will vary dependant on the usage of the Hall.

If you are interested in this position or would like further details and a formal job description please contact Kathryn Paterson, the Parish Clerk, on 412915.

Quorn Parish Council - Administrative Assistant

Quorn Parish Council wishes to appoint a computer literate, flexible, motivated and resourceful individual, with good organisational skills, a people-oriented personality, and preferably some accounting experience.

Working from home, you will assist the Parish Clerk in general administrative duties connected with the Parish Council, including preparing agendas for, and taking minutes at, evening meetings. You will also be responsible for establishing and maintaining a booking and accounting system for the hire of the Village Hall.

It is anticipated that you will use your own internet-enabled computer for which you will receive an allowance.

You will be paid a monthly salary of £250, based on an average of 10 hours work per week. The hours of work and remuneration will be reviewed annually.

If you are interested in applying for this new post or require more details, please contact:
Kathryn Paterson on 01509 412915 by 30th April.

Christmas Lights!

Did you like Quorn’s new Christmas lights? It took a lot of sorting out, but we all enjoyed working on the project.

The Parish Council has a small Christmas lights working group, consisting of Sue Templeman, Joan Bloodworth, Jo Backus and Terry Stirling. We have already had our first meetings to plan Christmas 2004.

As with everything we are limited by funds, but we see last Christmas as a start, and we would like to extend our lighting. This is where you come in. Help us to make a difference. Give us your views.

Our funds will inevitably be limited. Do we give first priority to Station Road? Or extending along High Street? Or lighting the area around the new Jubilee Gardens? Or anywhere else?
Do you want to see the white pea lighting in the trees retained if we can? (It is relatively expensive).

Did you like the stalactite lighting? Shall we extend with this, or what would complement it?
If you are one of the affected businesses, would you be prepared to make a contribution? This would help enormously.

We are going to try to do some fund raising to make an even better show – any contributions or donations would be brilliant! They can be handed in at Flowers By Sarah.

We are going to make much more of an event of the ‘switching on’ evening. The shops will be open and there are lots of plans in their early stages – watch this space!

Any ideas, suggestions or views are all very welcome. Please do contact us: Sue Templeman, 5 Spinney Drive, 412112.

Have you ever considered an allotment?

Quorn Parish Council is keen to hear from anyone who would be interested in renting an allotment.

The village has no public allotments and at the time of writing, there are no vacancies on the two privately owned sites. Depending on the response, the Council will give serious consideration to locating an acceptable site.

To register your interest please contact Kathryn Paterson, Clerk to the Council at 19 Wood Lane, Quorn, tel: 01509 412915.
