Can You Help?

Can anyone help please?

I recently purchased this drawing, called "The Chapel, Quorn" and would like to know more about it.

Does anyone know where this chapel was situated in the village, or anything about the artist? (The signature looks like N Goodbeay)?

Many thanks

Rowland Clarke on 01509 416779.

Any Litter Pickers Out There?

A request to any early morning (dog) walkers! Would you like to volunteer as an unofficial litter picker for the village? Not the most glamorous role in the village, but one that is essential to retaining a pleasant and safe environment.

You would be supplied with tongs and collecting sack, and collect general litter from your "route". If you would like to volunteer for this, please contact either Kathryn Paterson, Clerk to the Parish Council or John Hutchinson, Chairman of the Parish Council.

The Parish Council would like to thank Joan Parkinson and her friend, who have already volunteered for this.

Home Start Volunteers

Are you a Parent or Grandparent? YES? Then you know how tough it can be. Would you like to: Meet new people? Make new friends? Gain new skills? Make a difference to someone?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you are the person we are looking for to become a Home-Start volunteer.

Home-Start Charnwood is a voluntary organisation, which is committed to promoting the welfare of families who have at least one child under five years of age. Volunteers offer regular support, friendship and practical help to families under stress in their own homes, helping prevent family crisis and breakdown.

What we can offer you: The opportunity to attend a FREE course for one-day a week for nine weeks to train you in skills such as Assertiveness, Listening Skills, The importance of Play and Family Dynamics.

In return: We ask for 2 hours of your time a week to support a family in crisis.
If you think you are the special kind of person we are looking for, call us on 01509239786.

What did you do to celebrate the Queen's Golden Jubilee?

The next issue of "The Quorndon" will be the second half of the Golden Jubilee Special Edition. We would like to include your events.

So what was special for you this year? A marriage, attending a village function, a new baby, moving house, exam results.

Tell us, send us a photograph (with details of who and when on the back please), and we will try and include them in this record of Quorn's Golden Jubilee Year.

Can you help please?

"I have been trying to get hold of a copy of an old photograph of the Loughborough University Athletic Union that is on display in the Athletics Pavilion on campus. It is believed the picture was taken by Eric Blackadder in about 1986-1987.

I noticed from your website that Mr Blackadder sadly passed away three years ago. I was wondering if you could help me find whoever has his negatives, so that I can obtain a copy of this photograph?

Yours, Hannah Blackford

"The Quorndon" Charity Challenge Cup

Coming next year, the inaugural "The Quorndon" Charity Challenge Cup competition.

Quiz nights are a popular feature in the village, and "The Quorndon's" has decided to organise a grand quiz night to raise money for charity and local events, like the May Day celebrations.

All clubs and societies are invited to enter a team of 4 quizzers, this applies to individuals as well.

We hope that not only will it be a quiz night, but super and a bar will be available, maybe even a charity auction.

"The Quorndon" Charity Challenge Cup has been donated by Halina's Restaurant, and we gratefully acknowledge this support.

So if you are interesting in entering a team, sponsoring part of the evening or providing an item for the auction - give your details to Joan or Karenna.

Watch the next issue for more details!
